Polarity of Connection

Immerse yourself in the embodiment of Surrender and its companion, Direction. Through partnered movement and guided exercises that tip into subtle play, we’ll explore the essence of grounded yielding without collapse, and the power of clear guidance without brittle control. This class is about attunement, emotional nuance, and the strength of embodied choice.

This is an emotionally edgy class, designed for an edgy event. As always, you’re invited to participate at the depth that feels right for you. We’ll be working in couples and small groups, rather than rotating through the whole room.

Power Tools

An exploration of power dynamics within dance. We will use tone, resistance, acceleration and stillness to exchange power in fun, playful ways with our partners, based on some connection games which establish comfortable baselines and boundaries for an enjoyable dance.

As we establish safe and comfortable range, we will make a subtle nod to flamenco with its pride of posture and emotional intensity to introduce primal kink energy to a dance, and employs simple yet impactful alternative ways of leading, responding to, and transforming dance connections.

Bound Movement

We will explore the intersection between free movement and the tension of ropes. Through dance and basic shibari techniques, we will immerse ourselves in a sensory play of restriction, presence, and care.

We will learn the basic knot and a simple friction technique that will allow us to improvise aesthetic and functional patterns, accompanying the body in motion. It is not just about tying, but about how the body responds: to touch, to weight, to limits.

An intimate, creative and collective experience where touch and physical listening will take centre stage.

The Pause

Deliciously gentle breath play for intentional Fusion Dancers.

Breath is life. How can we harness it’s power in Fusion Dance? Through a journey of meditation, self-inquiery and playful co-creation, we will explore breath as a primary dance partner, powerful connection tool, presence enhancer and kinky toy.

Depictions of breath play in popular culture tend to be gendered, harsh and distant. This workshop is anything but that! This workshop is suitable for anybody with or without partner and/or experience.

Julia Happymiau – Life drawing

Illustrator by day and dancer by night.

She began her journey into Lindy hop and Blues in 2012. Later, in 2015, she started teaching both dances in Madrid. Her fascination with blues is what prompted her to start her own dance school, Fall in Blues, in 2018, from which she creates events, teaches classes and collaborates with other teachers in an effort to cultivate dance communities that foster unity, respect and harmony.

What sets Julia apart is her ability to merge her artistic pursuits with her passion for dance. At any given festival, you may find her not only dancing but also drawing graphic narratives capturing the essence of the events, creating a beautiful memory of the festival.
